Progressive Knee Extension Therapy
The OCSI Static Air Knee is a double-upright knee orthosis featuring single-setting hinges on each upright. The hinges should be adjusted to provide 10 degrees of additional extension beyond the comfortable end range. Once air is introduced into the bladders, the knee will be stretched in 10-degree increments. As range of motion improves, the hinges should be reset by 10 degrees to continue accommodating progress.
Pneumatic Stretch for Knee ROM
The pneumatic air bladders are housed in pockets attached to the back of the brace. When inflated, these bladders deliver a gentle Low Load Prolonged Stretch to the knee. Each brace comes with an air actuator for inflating and deflating the bladders. The inflation/deflation nozzle is located at the openings of the air bladder pockets at their distal ends. With continued use, the knee's range of motion should gradually improve, enhancing the joint's functional capacity.
Low Load Stretch for Knee ROM and ADL Independence
The functional use of the knee can be greatly enhanced by increasing range of motion through the Low Load Prolonged Stretch provided by the device, leading to improved independence in activities of daily living (ADLs). Extending wearing time to three to six hours per session helps achieve Total End Range Time (TERT), resulting in long-lasting stretch effects and permanent gains in joint range of motion. Orthotic treatment should continue until knee function is fully restored. If significant improvement is not achieved, the device can be used to maintain range of motion as necessary.
