Key Material Benefits

CuraDrape has a significantly lower drape, despite having high conformability, than similar materials. Because only the clinician is applying force, this feature gives them full control while molding, making it the most controllable material with conformability. CuraDrape is also the only material outside the Aquaplast family that has moderate material memory, allowing the clinician to make minor adjustments to the finished splint if heated.

Handling

Resistance to stretch: Moderate

Controlled stretch and the ability to handle with moderate pressure. It will not stretch out of shape when removed from splint bath.

Conformability: Moderate/Maximum

Conforms to surface contours and detail when minimum force is applied. Low degree of drape.

Memory: Moderate

When reheated, the material partially “remembers” its original shape and returns to it. This allows for reshaping of the splint for minor adjustments.

Bonding: Coated

Create a temporary bond by pinching together heated material; however, it will come apart when cooled. Form a permanent bond by scrubbing off the coating or removing it with a bond solvent.

Physical

White or charcoal

Appearance: Opaque when heated

Hardened Splint

Rigidity: Moderate/Maximum (40.7 kpsi*)

Retains shape without reinforcement.

Rolyan CuraDrape Thermoplastic Splinting Material

Overview

CuraDrape™ offers clinicians a moderate resistance to stretch, high conformability, but a low level of drape. The material moves when the clinician desires, and a force must be applied to shape it, but it will not stretch or react to gravity. This level of control is not available in any other Rolyan splinting material, making it an excellent choice for therapists new to splinting, but also experienced therapists. CuraDrape’s unique material make-up makes it the lightest-weight material in the Rolyan spectrum and gives it a soft matte appearance and feel. It can be reheated and reshaped repeatedly, but once it has been stretched, it will only partially return to its original shape.

Rolyan Spectrum of Splinting Material

Rolyan provides therapists and clinicians the largest spectrum of hand therapy products and care. Rolyan empowers every therapist with the passion to mold and shape their patients’ recovery.

Heating Instructions

The recommended method for heating splinting materials is with hot water in a splint bath.
Only use a heat gun for spot-heating and adjustments.

Note: Overheating splinting materials increases the draping/stretching characteristics; allow material to cool slightly before handling to avoid excess stretching.

Indications

Splinting materials are intended to be used for fabrication of custom-molded rigid splints, orthoses, and adaptive equipment.

Best uses include:

  • Thumb spica splints
  • Finger splints
  • Hand splints
  • Wrist splints
  • Elbow splints
  • Dynamic splints
  • Neck collars
  • Foot drop splints
  • Carpal tunnel splints
  • Pediatric splints
  • Adaptive equipment
  • Fracture braces
  • Splints for arthritis
  • Knee splints
  • Arthritis splints
  • Flexor tendon splints

Care & Cleaning

Store at temperatures between 40° and 90°F (4° and 32°C) and less than 65 percent relative humidity. Avoid prolonged exposure to light, especially ultraviolet. Avoid exposure to corrosive and ethylene oxide fumes.

Formed splints will lose their shape in temperatures over 135°F(57°C) and should be kept away from sources of heat such as ovens, hot water, and car windows.

Clean splint with soap and lukewarm water. Allow splint and straps to dry thoroughly before reapplication.

Precautions for finished orthoses
Splint adjustments are to be made only by a health care professional, who is responsible for providing wearing instructions and precautions to other practitioners, care providers and the patient. If unusual swelling, skin discoloration or discomfort occurs, discontinue use and consult a health care professional.
